What’s up Tom. Long time lover of the show. I really appreciate the free game you dish out.
I love all of the jams in each episode. They’ve become some of my biggest inspiration the past couple of years. There’s one intro jam that I keep coming back to, that I want to learn more about. It’s episode 34 “strat fury” 1. Can you please give some insight on the chords and progression? There’s so much sauce in your playing that I can’t figure it out
Also, I’ve been trying to find a signed vinyl of Trip the Witch for so long. Can’t even find one on eBay or private sellers. I’ve been on a wait list for a restock for like a year. Are they ever coming back? Can I personally request one from the legend himself? I’d love a plexi soul one too… my digital copy isn’t enough
Hey Tom,
Thought it might be time to bring a little humor into the Homeskoolin’ lessons. See if this might be good enough to share….
Three notes walk into a bar, a C, an Eb and a G. The bartender says, “I’m sorry, but we don’t serve minors. So the Eb leaves, and once he does the C and the G have a fifth between them.
Regarding your badass cherry red ES-335, I agree with you- so much cooler when it’s a bright red (or watermelon) and not faded doodoo brown. Reminded me to pick your brain about Gibson custom colors. I just bought a non reverse firebird in Cardinal red and went down a rabbit hole looking at Gibsons in Cardinal Red and Ember red and found something that is hard to pin down. Cardinal red is comparable to Fenders Dakota red but apparently there were two variations of Ember red, one bright like Fiesta red and one dark Scarlett. Do you know when the ember red color changed for Gibson? I’ve seen Ember Red nitrocellulose spray cans for the bright variant that looks like Cardinal Red and Cardinal Red nitro that looks dark Scarlett and it’s mindfucking me
Hey Uncle Larry, just watched Pizza Guy (Vol. 360) episode, hope Brandon Hood´s new martin gets fixed soon. And talking about Abbey Road/Sun King, Have you recorded at Abbey Road/EMI studios? Thanks for the videos/lessons, cheers!
Tom,
Love your show on youtube.
In a few videos you showed the amps, that you’ve got in a room at your house.
Do you use the amprx Brownbox with your amps of pedalboard?
You have talked many times about using the shoulder of the pick. Today (11/14/2024) David Gilmour posted an Instagram story that showed him using a razor blade to shave his pick. It looks like he was making a more rounded edge. Have you ever seen that done before?
Much love man. Upon reading this favorite C.S. Lewis quote of mine, do any musical applications or interpretations spring to mind…?
“No man who values originality will ever be original. But try to tell the truth as you see it, try to do any bit of work as well as it can be done, for the work’s sake, and what men call “originality” will come unsought.” -Lewis, The Weight of Glory
Hey Larry!
I’m Jimmy from Denmark. 47 years old. I’m a musician and I’ve been playing since I was 15.
I’m a huge fan of you and your channel. I’ve seen (almost) all your videos! You are a huge inspiration! as a musician and as a person! I would like to meet you some day. Thank you for sharing all your thoughts and music on the channel.
So! the reason why I contact you is because I have a duo with my girl and we would like to go to Nashville for writing/recording new material for our album. The dream would be with you and Dan A., but I know it’s a long shot!
Anyway,- maybe you would like to hear some of the music we’ve been making and maybe you have suggestions who to contact.
I can’t say enough about Love Somebody, the new MW tune. You and Bryan smashed that one. The acoustic solo is so fresh. My question: is that you playing the intro melody?? It sounds like a keyboard, but I suspect that might be you through a whammy pedal of some sort? Thanks brother.
Hey Uncle Larry! Think you could do a video on your current live rig? Love the tones off the new record w/ GT, and I’m curious how you’re running your amps/splitting up signals. Thanks!
Tom- Thank you for posting videos of all things Unkle Larry during this hectic time period in the USA. From Oct.7 to the crazy election you provide so much relief and escape from all the noise.
The music you share, guitar advice, whacky comments and blue collar comedy are the best medicine for many of us.
Tom what in your opinion is the best Taylor acoustic guitar for someone like me who has small little girl hands? If I get that guitar would I then be happy?
I am glad to have found you 4 years ago, you helped me through some bad times.
I fucking love you man.
Hey Tom,
What are some albums you like that are so perfect in every way (songwriting, performance, production) that you forget about all that and just bathe in the pure perfection. BTW, I’m late to your party, been following you for a few months now, but you have changed the way I improvise. I find myself thinking, “What would Uncle Larry play right here?” Much love and respect!
Uncle Larry, I seek your advice: I am visiting Nashville next week for the first time. Besides visiting Gruhn Guitars, what other guitar shops or music attractions should this guitar geek seek out?
Hi Uncle Larry, I enjoyed your recommendation of Church of the Cosmic Skull from a while back. Wondering if you’ve ever heard of the band King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard? Here’s an example of some of them jamming live: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uD7fEd-d9I
These fellas are from Australia and produce about 2-3 albums a year from Psychedelic Rock, to Metal, to Electronic, to Microtonal instrumentation. Some is weird, some insane, some sublime. Check out the “Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava” album for a taster.
I’ve got two standing room tickets for the 11/21 NYC show that I won’t be able to make, which sucks for me. If you know anybody looking for a couple tickets, just trying to get face value.
Howdy Tom!
Just got tickets for Nov 7th and planning my trip. Besides rumble seat , carter’s n gruhns, are there any must see things I should add to the list? Looking forward to the show!
hey tom thanks for making me laugh when u said you wanted to punch the jagoff deuchebags in the throat. i appreciate you and your tight community of sweet people as you say. its funny how people of similar backrounds think alike at times. 62yr old mistake orphan as you were. mom passed after birth dad at 9. next bro is 8 yrs older oldest bro 20 yrs older. but older bro turned me onto great music as a kid. now at 62 playing guitar and appreciating all you do every day my brother! thanks for being a good dude with all you talents and successes!
Hi Tom- Do you think that listening to challenging music is important? King(s)Gizzard/Crimson, Wire, Joy Division and Robert Fripp come to mind. Thanks, Jim
Tom- love the show and particularly when you are in a reflective Fall mood. Question – have you ever owned or played an RD? Ive got a reissued one its boat anchor but sounds good – strap button at the end the neck needs moved though, its driving me nuts.

Uncle Larry, would you prefer a princeton reverb reissue 65 or 68 to a Duesenberg starplayer tv?

Just got a table on the floor to see the birthday boy. Bringing a crew from Cincinnati.
