  1. Hi Uncle Larry. I think you played on Morgan Wallen’s ‘One Thing at Time.’ In the lead lick, there is a distinctly you sounding riff. How did you get the tone? It sounds like a rotary pedal but not sure.

    Love your work.

  2. Hi Tom-

Have you ever played any dates with Jack Pearson? You two are my favorite guitarists but I never hear much about him.

Apologies if you’ve mentioned him in the past and I just missed it.

Thanks for all the great lessons, tips, and motivation!

    Matt

  3. Mornin’ Tom! Curious if you remember an Idaho rock band called “Fat Chance” that released a self-titled record in 1972. It featured Steve Eaton and Bill LeBounty, who of course went on to have careers as successful songwriters. They were sort of a flash in the pan, but had a killer sound.

  4. Hi Tom. Love the channel. Can’t wait to hear the album with Guthrie and the next Trip the Witch project. (Trapp & Trip? Trip the Trapp?) Anyhoo, do you have any pointers for an older player like me (turning 60 in 2 weeks) who wants to learn how to use hybrid picking? Been playing since I was teenager, but never developed that technique. What’s a good way to start? Cheers!

    • you just gotta start using your fingers and a pick any the same time mate…thats all it is. album should be out in next couple months.

  5. Hey Tom
Love watching the show, the chats, the playing, tis all a wonderful thing, somewhat like living in sunny England :-). A couple of things i wanted to ask. 1) knowing your love for a good amp, what is your preferred method of speaker cab for example. A closed back, open back, 12″,10″ speaker blah blah or is subject to the environment you are playing at the time? You may have mentioned this before i am not sure. 2nd) Grimshaw guitars! have you tried them, if so what do you think? MR Pete Townsend and many other UK based players used these back in the day as you couldn’t buy a Gibson here. I have a GS33 and is by far one of the best sounding guitar I have and have heard Tis a bitch to play though and fights you. Maybe this why MR T plays the way he dose. beating on Grimshaw guitars back many moons ago. ha ha ha. anyway…let me know. Great show and keep up the good fight… As you were soldier! 🙂 (you might know that saying) peace and love pal. cheers Trev.

      • Hi Tom.
Many thanks for coming back to me. If you get 5, dig a bit deeper on the Grimshaw thing. You might get a little gem, best keep it a secret though. Do a little research on their PAF’s, and the relationship between Gibson and Grimshaw. sssshhhhh we need to keep these things quiet or the fuckers out there buy all the stuff and the prices go through the roof! :-). You want classic Brit (early ,Clapton and Townsend Boom!)

        Cheers
Trev (Not so sunny England today 🙂

  7. Tom, Can you please go over the Another Door Tripsitter sessions. Players, Producers etc…. I love the album and would love some insight about it.

  8. Hey Tom- Question for the question guy. Would you rather be the QB who leads the Browns to a Super Bowl victory or record album with Beatles in their prime?? I am an extremely frustrated Bengals fan from Cincinnati. All the best.

  9. Thanx a lot, Uncle Larry. I just recently discovered your channel and got addicted very soon. I do appreciate that you are different from so many other channels where guitarists showing off high speed skills without feel. Your inspiring playing makes me grab my guitar immediately.
I doubt that I ever achieve your level of skills, but I feel that I get a little better by watching every volume of Homeskoolin.
Greetings from good old Europe (Germany)!

  10. Hey Uncle Larry,

Curious about your thoughts/impressions of high-end/super Strat-style guitars(Suhr, Tom Anderson, Tuttle. I would even throw Nash Guitars into that conversation)?

Love your playing, and insights on music, bands, gear etc. The channel is great resource for all musicians. Keep it up!

  11. Hey Tom, why did you choose to play slide with your ring finger? Seems there would be trade offs with any choice, but if you and Derek both chose the ring there must be something to it. I haven’t committed yet so wondering whether you’d make the same choice if you were starting over, knowing what you know now. Thanks for all the priceless wisdom these past 3+ years!

  12. Uncle Larry,

No any one armed guitar players? I have a partial left arm above the elbow and I’ve always wanted to play but not use an artificial arm. I’m curious in your career if you’ve ever encountered or know someone that has found a way to do this successfully.

Thanks for all the Homeskoolin’ content and all of your music! Cheers!

  13. dude that white SG im watching you play during Barracuda is the next guitar im hunting down. I hope those guys realize how lucky they are to be playing with uncle larry lol

  15. Hey Tom glad you liked my ‘I want my MCB’ comment, you should send me a shirt
    My YouTube handle is abnerlookat
    love your channel
    T%hanks yet again
    Tim

  16. I’m watching Monday Night Football and the Browns just went up 22 to 19 over Pittsburg with 10 minutes left in the game. I imagine at this moment there is all sorts of whoopin’ and hoolerin’ at Tommy Bukovacs place.

  17. Hey Tom, Love the show. Hope you are doing great.

After my friend sent me one of your videos in quarantine I have been hooked and kept up ever since. My playing has gotten so much better and my rig is darn near respectable now and I thank you for it.

Funnily enough, I was telling my old man about you and the channel (he grew up in Willoughby but moved our family down south when I was a wee lad) and he and my uncle said they totally know the bukovacs and went to school with a couple of them. Actually, the first thing he said was “Hey, they own Rudy’s!”. My uncle is friends with one of the Bundy boys but not Al or Ted. I couldn’t put my finger on why i’ve been digging your videos so much (other than the obvious) and I realized it’s cause you remind me so much my dad and uncle and their pals.

Take care and hope you and the boys are well. Go browns!

  18. Tom: I just learned tonight in the midst of a Skool archive binge, that episode 56 was when the term VCB was born. In turn and over time, I learn much within comments by other Skool types in the video places we seem to congregate in, content all about Tom Bukovac, ALWAYS to show and share our respect. I realize through the VCB information how much you have captured my musical attention over quite a period of time. I realize I have known you musically by your style and tone and on certain songs drawn in again and again, marking what resonates for my musical taste. All long before YouTube gave us access and freedom to search, find, and learn what we find lovely and inspiring. your imprint on my ear was not made by who you were playing for but by what you added musically to the song. I am full of appreciation for what you humbly gift to us and how you allow us unreal access into your very special musical journey . You are ever in my musical esteem. Young Jack loves Blues in G, he already knows how the best should sound. That baby has survived to live a special life and he LOVES music and the guitar at 6 months old. Play one for him and his Auntie Tom ❤️ mostly, thank you for bringing us along

  19. The brand used hardly been new guitar sounds wonderful.Let me know when you want to sell it.Your tone is great, thanks for sharing. You are one Bad Ass player.

  20. Hey Uncle Larry. “Sunday leftovers” is so beautiful I cry like a baby when I listen to it. I am working it out on my box to the best of my ability. Learning how much that right hand is key. Your magic touch is great. The very best lessons !

  21. Hey uncle larry; love the hydro drum machine.Nice touch at the end of video.Love all the chordal work you share with us.Came to believe in a guitar greater than myself could restore me sanity.

  22. I gotta admit, Im perplexed by the whole sound the Hermanos provide. That right hand style is so unfamiliar to me, its mesmerizing. They also seem super laid back and easy to work with. Thanks for enlightening us.
