  1. Yo Tom! What do you think of Joe Perry as a guitarist (also his tone)? Don’t recall you ever talking about him.

I was listening to the Aerosmith album “Rocks”, the song “sick as a dog”, I was really digging that guitar tone.

But that’s what I grew up with, so I guess for me that’s what guitar is supposed to sound like. I wonder what you think.

      • Didn’t even know that he played on that first record, I started in with Toys in the Attic so never read the liner notes for Get Your Wings. He was great on Alice Cooper’s records too.

  2. Tom, I appreciate that you don’t edit your videos. It seems like YouTube is supposed to be contemporaneous and not over built. For instance, I’m not a fan of the “If Tom Bukovac had an Editor…”. I don’t like it when the technology is used like a crutch rather than a seasoning. I’m getting authentic content as a Homeschooler. Tim Pierce edits his stuff a bit, but it still seems like a seasoning rather than a curtain of deception. Keep on with the awesomeness. I’m more a Blues Jazz person but I really dig it when you highlight a great piece of equipment for its intrinsic brilliance. And of course your innate ability to pull it out and show it through your playing.

  3. Newer homeschooler here – great stuff! How’s your ’64 J50 compare to older ones in your experience? I have a lead on one from the early 50’s, but through video clips, it doesn’t seem to have the warmth yours has. A bit more jangly. Thoughts?
    Cheers.

  4. Hey Uncle Larry
my name is Maximilian from Berlin, Germany. 1st of all i’m a big fan of your show, keep the fantastic vids commin’ i’m a lot of times in front of the channel with the ol’ yellow SG special tryin’ to play along, here is my question: in the Rig Rundown: Tom Bukovac, Premiere guitar you play this awesome 61 custom sg/les paul custom in factory black! i dreamt about this guitar twice at least but i never saw it on the homeskoolin’ videos, is that guitar still in your collection and would you play it in a video for the homeskoolers?

    • hello sir, thank you for the kind words..i sold that guitar a while back. Cool instrument but it was a teench heavy for me….

  5. Thomas …..should all guitars ( i just built a tele) have a slightly bowed neck, or does a totally straight neck make sense? I have some fret noise and am thinking of tightening the truss rod a bit for a bit of bow to get rid of the buzz. I know you have always said you cant tell unless you have the guitar in your hand, but maybe?

  6. Hi Uncle Larry- I was perusing your credits and saw that you played on two of Taylor Swift’s albums but that you didn’t play on the recent re-records (assuming credits are correct). Just wondering if you feel any sort of way about this. Is it “business as usual” or do you think you should’ve been called? As I understand it they are meant to be exact duplicates, so someone played the parts you created note-for-note.

    • man i have no earthly idea….i do know that if you play on one record in nashville (or anywhere) for that matter…there is no reason whatsoever to believe you might play on the next record that person makes.

  7. Tom,
Has a session producer ever asked you to “dumb it down” for fear the touring guitarist may not be able to reproduce it live?
    Peace out!

  8. Hey Uncle Larry,
The Beatles…. Can you please give us a short review of the importance and innovations they brought to this blue planet and what you learn from and dig about them?

What do you listen for in a song? What makes a song “good” to you?

Did I miss the vinyl version of Plexi Soul?

Of course thank you for all you do.
….The shop needs more coffee mugs.

    • you did not miss vinyl plexi soul….general rule of thumb….if a song moves you and makes you feel something then its good…if it doesn’t it’s shit.

  9. Uncle Larry, As the resident connoisseur of all things vintage firebird, what are your favorite reproduction pickups? Who is making the best vintage firebird pickups in your opinion?

  10. Obviously your on the cutting edge of todays popular music culture.
Rightly so I point out your amazing knowledge, creativity, and personality.

My question- hedging or speculating the music business what’s your take. Not attentional A.I question, but appropriately placed.
I’m basically requesting your reflective narrative. From your beginning to now and the changes you have been apart of willingly or unwillingly. You do this some with equipment. But more the culture I’m asking.

    Past, present, future.

The reason I ask is I believe the art of music represents a direct correlation to culture it’s self.

Thank you Session Man: your life has contributes to many at this time.
You could or will live on for 500 years after you move on. From the music you have helped create.
    Quite the accomplishment.

    I also applaud your boldness.
Doing this channel-allowing so many voices.

    Blessings, & peace to you.
forever grateful to learn from you.

  11. Mr. B… I was on with Gilvis recently.. bird watching, the subject… there is another..same or earlier..as the 2 you noted. I wish I knew how to ‘tag’ him here… LOL… anyway.. pardon my intrusion on your time.. but I think you should assign Gilvis a “Rock-N-Roll name”.. eh? Am I intruding too far? (sorry for that). You know him.. if it’s really unique.. and from Kalamazoo.. He’s touched it. Cheers from Bugtustle!

  12. What are the chances of a birthday show this year? 3rd and Lyndsly have the date open on schedule.

Also, the Ampeg Super Twin still sounds amazing, very fun amp like you said. Now that it’s getting cooler in Cincy, people are closing there windows more and I think my neighbors are going to miss it .

  13. Hi Tom , love your show, i was watching the Dan and Pat thing and I heard you mention something about having a hobby. Here it is – 1/32 scale slot cars , you like cars right , check it out ,it’s something your boys will like too . You want some pointers, let me know

  14. Hey Tom, just wanted to say thanks. Wish I had found your channel sooner but I am playing catch up now. You Sunday Leftovers on the ole Gibson acoustic really made me pull out my acoustic which I really never do, having a great time learning the parts. Hope you bring out that white 58 EMS-1235 a lot more, I think she was my favorite sounding one so far, and that short 6 string on top, man what a cool tone, but they all have that mojo going on. Very ultra cool guitar, bet with the Marshall your using now it would just sing. Saw you mention to Doug and Pat you need a hobby to fill in at times with something new to do. I think with the boys you might get into a digital slot car track, something you and the little Buk’s could do together to. The digital stuff now lets you do so much it makes for a lot of laughs, and the car detail is cool. Check out Carrera digital 124 scale, you might get a kick out of it. I tried it this year and wonder why I did not do it sooner. Peace out, love your channel brother, and the guitars are just added icing on the cake.
    ✌️

  15. Hey Tom,

A successful businessman I respect recently attributed his success to “taking care of the little things.”

When it comes to musicianship, what first comes to your mind as “taking care of the little things”?

  16. Hey uncle Larry; Much liked the firebird episode. I love the information you share with us on the history of things .I too have always loved the firebird models.I have a Firebird 2 from the 80’s.Moog designed the electronics. It’s a different type of bird ,it agrees with me though.Would love to get an older one some day. Thanks again for everything. The channel with substance and merit.

  17. thank you bro…i just did that in the moment…never played the song before in my life. that was all directly from my “MTV memory” and i don’t even know what i did. if the record wasn’t reggae, well it should have been

  18. Uncle Larry,

I know that you don’t like to talk about gear, but could you give us your thoughts on ‘50s vs Modern wiring in Gibson guitars? I just got my first humbucker guitar (ES-335) and am finding myself using the volume controls more than I had been using on my Strat. The notion of ‘50s wiring sounds appealing, but the reality of re-wiring a 335 does not…

Regardless, I appreciate what you continue to share with the guitar playing community at large. Many thanks.

    • sounds good bro…don’t know about that extra chord change though…makes it a little too “grandiose”…there is power in simplicity

      • Amen to simplicity. I like the brief tension before the „extra chord“ in the 3rd turnaround of the vocal line. But I‘m guilty of putting ear candy wherever I can to hold the shorter and shorter attention span. I briefly forgot whom I‘m sending this to. Cheers man.

  19. Hey Tom,

Thanks for reminding me that Ann’s new record was available. I gave Another Door a couple listens, and this one sounds great. Fierce Bliss was in heavy rotation and expect this one will be too. Roger Dean and then Hipgnosis doing your album covers – wow, that would satisfy my dream – you all must be thrilled. I was trying to pick out some of your guitar parts – the outro of What If and beginning of Miss One And Only stand out as two that could be yours. And while I’m dishing praise, Trip The Witch continues to keep me company- especially driving home after work and winding down at the end of the day. Great work and look forward to your next project.

  20. Hi Tom
On volume 243 of homeschooling you star the episode playing with sg special you was in a concert, playing live for a lady doing a massive solo what gain stages of overdrive you was using

  21. Tom, Tommy, Uncle Larry, Buk:
I just want to say thank you for letting us all in on your life and music. For those of us who will never have had the chance to see behind the curtain we are in your debt. Send me a couple of must catch gigs for Sunday and Monday night.

Sincerely, I appreciate all that you do.

    -Matt Loftin

      • I appreciated you sharing what was in your soul at least that’s the way it appeared to me, sorry for your loss. When I hear you play you convey much soul not everyone conveys that. You just play with great warmth of emotion.

  22. Hi Tommy love the channel, perfect blend of inspirational playing and informative chat. Since I saw your practice for the Jim Irsay gig I’ve had Tina Turner’s What’s Love Got to Do with it constantly popping into my head on some kind of loop, such a cool reggae vibe and especially that beedop bedebodop bit, can you show us the chords and that riff please.

    Cheers, your The Man
