  1. Hey Uncle Larry. I just got a 12 string electric and I remembered you talking about playing with Joe Walsh in soundcheck, feathering it, while using a compressor. Joe reminded you that it’s a stadium lol. Anyway, I want that broken egg oozing over my head vibe too. What kind of compressor would you recommend?

    Thanks man!

  2. Dang Larry just drop the frickin mic man, All things must come to an end and then bam out not even a word that is how you do it kids!!!!

    Dopest shit ever

  3. Hey Tom,
What’s you take on the Es225? I was offered one the other day… super clean all original ‘56.

Thanks for your wisdom in advance

    • love them….especially the 2 pickup models…they are fully hollow though so you will have howling uncontrollable feedback whether you like it or not

  4. Uncle Larry,

You’ll probably laugh but I’d love to hear your thoughts about the dings and dents that well used instruments take over their lives. It seems like it would be a point of concern for someone who uses so many fine / rare guitars day in and out. I’m sure you take great care of your stuff but you also don’t seem the type to he precious about instruments.

Thanks for everything you give us! Your videos really reignited the passion for playing in a formerly serious guitar player who decided to go get a regular guy job. It’s been awesome and the love of music has gotten my young son playing and given us something to connect over.

    • i don’t mind a beat up guitar….i just don’t like guitars that are so hammered that they are covered with someone else’s DNA like a used mattress

  5. Tom.. If I were to speak about old ZZ.. Tres Hombres.. Lotsa tele/esquire work there, IMO.. the fender/marshall link and maybe something else (pedal)?? I’d like to see someone hook up an old tele/esq and dial up that tone like blue jean blues.. or la grange.. I would love to get that sound and what you read sometimes has stories within stories.. ya ever been around it? Would you do a short blurb on it, maybe? from your perspective as a session man. It’s really near the old les paul tone.. in a lot of ways… almost deceiving at times. OK… that dipshit hillbilly from Bugtustle again.. love your channel, love your stream of consciousness.. and thanks for your time.

    • BG gets a lot of great tones man…he is a magician…i know nothing about how he does it, and thats fine with me.

  6. Hey Uncle Larry ( I actually had an Uncle Larry, jailed for molestation, no shit he sucked) anyway, I know you like to pull out that old Big Muff occasionally. I have a love hate with it. I love my plexi (Friedman Smallbox 50W) and I love my big muff but unless the plexi is cracked master and very low pre amp gain the big muff just sucks. So, ever tried the big muff in the FX loop? I love my pre-amp gainy classic rock style so was wondering your 2 cents.

Love the vids, the humor, and the general laid back “this is who I am like it or lump nature man!”

  7. I have one of those Silvertone acoustic guitars, it was a Christmas gift almost 60 years ago. I love it, love its sound, but more recently, my local luthier says it can’t be anything other than a slide guitar…which is ok, but not what I want…and watching Jedd Hughes play yours only rekindled the ‘ache.’
You have mentioned a guy who reworks these guitars…is he still doing it, can I reach out to him?
Your YT channel is my everyday hang…your musical touch, sensibilities and wide ranging life thoughts really ground me AND knock me back, sometimes. Thank you!!

  8. Uncle Larry what are you using on Blues and Dank Nugs that’s giving the lower octave? Also, how about playing a Plexi Soul live show? In a smallish venue like the size of The Baked Potato club. That would be freakin’ wicked!

  9. larry – did you know Jim Brown (yes #44) discovered a group named The Friends of Distinction? They had that hit in 1968 called Grazing In The Grass.

  10. Bought “The Lost Tapes” release with you and Jedd Hughes, it is just what I was hoping for! A fair shake of twang salad tossed with some tasty picking. Nicely done and thank you to you both for putting it together!

  11. Tom, 1- Brian Sipe is MY QB. I am 2 years older than you and that was my team !!
    2. I am watching your video and wondered, is the Number system universal or do different people have different versions? Could you tell these guys a song is in G and everyone would be on the same page?

    Thank You

  12. Hi Buko ; What style of music do you like to use the Duesenburg alliance model for? Many thanks for your sense of humor,It’s great.

    • its a really versatile guitar….great for anything….have you ever seen the footage of ann wilson at Wacken?

  13. Tom, I saw the 1960 GA-83S on Reverb but have also seen one at “The Guitar Broker” in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Happy hunting brother!

  14. Hi Larry: Just wanted to share how my respect for you has changed over the years. I started watching you on YouTube as a way to improve my guitar playing… My wife joined me watching in the den last week and asked in a a very non-pejorative way about why I watched you – as I never sat down with my guitar and tried to learn anything any more.

I shared that while I did not know you (never met you), you felt like a long-distance friend. As I’ve retired and probably minimized my friendships, I am always interested in what you’re up to, your life, etc. Your (clearly) great heart has had an effect on me (I mention while watching you cook). You’re the perfect friendly neighbor. Thanks for including all of us in your life and for having such a great heart!

  15. Uncle Larry (feels kinda’ funny, 66 year old me callin’ 54 year old you, uncle. Nonetheless I love ya like extended family!)
Couple things,1.) I work at a cool little guitar store north of ATL. called Jaws Guitars, and I was playing Plexi Soul record there Saturday…several patrons were like,”wow, who are we hearin’!?” Love your record, Tom!
2.) Curious as to your thoughts on Epiphone and Squier instruments? Obviously they don’t compare to the cache’ of sweet vintage axes you play, but as tools… I own many guitars, some very high end, yet a couple of faves are the Epi/Squier variety.
Anyhoo, Happy Thanksgiving and thanks for the great music and good fun!
    Jimmy

    • thanks for the kind words…..with all those cheapo guitars it’s just a case by case basis….you may play 100 that are garbage to find one that’s reasonable.

i’m just a believer in the fact that in my few remaining years on this planet, if i’m gonna play a guitar, i want it to be something special.

i suppose once you find a really good burst you start thinking things like, “what the hell is the point of ever playing anything besides this thing?”

      • Yessir, if I was ever blessed to be custodian of a sweet ‘burst, I’d probably off all the rest. Thanks again for spending time online chatting, teaching and entertaining us guitar addicts with your incredible gifts…I look forward to each new episode!
        Peace,
        Jimmy

  16. Dammit Larry, you use that pinky finger like a spider monkey uses his tail! That new geetar sounds amazing, course haven’t heard one sound bad in your hands yet. Great feel…..keepem coming

  17. Hey Tom, you mentioned that your new 61 SG special is your new go-to live guitar but do you use that guitar on studio session gigs too? Or do you use it just as your ‘live’ guitar only and still just use other guitars for sessions?

  18. Hey Tom, what’s your preferences on neck profiles (fat, slim, etc)? Haven’t heard you talk too much on how particular you are when it comes to the neck shapes. Thanks.

  19. Tom
I’m not the richest guy on the planet, I can’t get both, and I would like to know your honest opinion before I make mine. 335 or Les Paul Special.( I guess Buckers or P-90’s) I only get one shot at this. I’m a blues rock player that is transitioning to a more heavier style blues.

    Thanks for all you do

  20. Hey Unk– You on the Lions bandwagon? I mean, you MUST love the go-for-it-on-4th-down attitude! This could revolutionize the tired, boring, conservative NFL. When I was a teen, I read sports books. They used to punt on third down!
