  1. It was so awesome to see you on CBS playing at Willie Nelson’s 90th birthday! Congratulations on being a part of such an epic event. What do you notice about other people’s stage presence when your doing a show like that?

  2. Tom, There is a very special ’54 Strat for sale at Emerald City Guitars in Seattle, WA. It was Ed King’s Strat and of course I needn’t discourse on who Ed King is to you brother. Anyway, a piece of history for sure but also a very, very clean ’54. Thought you might be interested, Peace to you and yours, Scott

  3. Hey Tom,

In a recent vid with the firebird, when you are trying to figure out what you are doing to make that “sound”.

Watch Blazing Telecasters with Danny Gatton and Tom Principato. Danny does this going into his solo on Tom’s Samba. Of course Danny turns it up 10 notches. If you figure out how he does this id like to see you explain it in a video. I haven’t figured it out in 20 years

  4. Hey Larry, this might be interesting: as we know, one way to approach a guitar solo is to draw inspiration from other instrumentalists, like sax players, for instance. How about looking at a great sax solo (like from Billy Joel’s “Just the Way You Are”) and run through how a guitarist may have approached playing that, how the note choices and phrasing would translate to the fretboard, etc. Probably a great way that we can try to break out of playing the same old patterns on the guitar. Cheers from Toronto.

  5. Hey TOM, been watching your series now for quite a while finally chiming in here. My only gripe is your complaining you’re an old fart when I just turned 66 I retired and I’m getting back in it I have a slew of vintage, Gear guitars, and by the grace of God, I’ve been able to play with some friends who have a studioso anyways when you say you’re an old fart I’m telling you I’m 66 I’m an old fart ….anyways. Cheers I can’t get yer beer out here in California and I hate rolling Brock so I’m glad you dumped them …I Just scored a 1991 Firebird one. I have a few other Firebirds that I’m glad you like them too. This Firebird one is awesome. Can’t wait to see your next endeavor. Cheers again brad

  6. Hey Tom! I wish you a great holiday with your kids. MERRY CHRISTMAS ! Ive got 10 years on you and some days my hands just don’t have it ….retired but still kicking it . You’ve really inspired me and kept me playing these last few years and continue to do so , thank you . All the best, Mark

  7. Hey Tom. Great show! Very inspiring!

Having played professionally for decades, I for some reason always doubt my relative levels, when playing live. (clean-ish, crunch, solo etc.)

Like you, I don’t like to play too loud on stage, as I like to hear a good mix of myself and the rest of the band.

So sometimes people let me know that they don’t think I’m loud enough when playing a solo, for example.

Do you have any rule of thumb about that?

    Best regards 🙂

  8. Hey uncle Larry. Huge fan of the channel. Whether I’m on the road or at home on the tube you always bring a smile to my day. I sent you a vinyl and a letter a while back with a question. I hope you got it. If not, I could send another. Take care and keep rocking
    Eddie

  9. Hi Uncle Larry,

Among you and your peers, is the Princeton or Deluxe more common/popular in a session context? Historically speaking (in the US at least), do you think one was more popular for the OGs or do they share that honor equally?

  10. Big fan Tom, and although I am a senior, I look forward to watching and learning from your vids. So informative, and down to earth! My question is about the Marshall amp used in your videos lately. Which model is it? Sounds awesome with just about everything!

  11. Uncle Larry, Thanks for all you have given to us with your excellent video’s. I have been following you from the very beginning of this journey you have undertaken and can’t express how much you have helped all of our playing. Been playing 55 years and 30 of those with Focal Dystonia in my right hand so I can only play with only my fingers, I haven’t been able to hold a pick for 30 yrs. and am trying to retrain my brain to allow me to but it’s a freakin journey. Bless you sir and keep those video’s coming.

  12. Hi Tom,

2 quick questions. Was Trip the Witch all analog? And any plans for a future record w/ Dean? Plexi Soul & TTW are in high rotation at my house. My daughter thought I was listening to new Pink Floyd. I hear a little Gilmour but it’s in its own category. Melody rich. Beautiful.

    Thanks!

  13. I’m about to get surgery on my wrist. What do you think I should work on while I’m out of commission? I was thinking of working on ear training but not sure on what else to work on.

What would you do musically if you were in my predicament?

  14. Hi Tom,

Love the show! I need a little help. My wife is a teacher at Bellevue Middle School. They have 3 rock bands(6th, 7th and 8th grades) you can imagine that these guitars are heavily used. The past 2 years I have volunteered to fix these guitars. (I’m 72 and retired)Usually simple stuff but recently they have needed pots replaced and I suck at soldering. Any chance you could help me fix a couple of guitars? I’ll buy the parts. Thanks

  15. Hey Tom!

Greetings from Cincinnati! Hope all is well. Picked up a copy of Plexi Soul and it’s fantastic. One thing that really got my attention was the inside cover….specifically the fact that you included the novelization of “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”!

Out of curiosity, what are a few of your “hidden gem” movies that you always recommend to people if they haven’t seen them already? Sure everyone knows the classics like The Godfather, Saving Private Ryan, Shawshank Redemption, etc, but what about the movie version of a B-side? For me, it’s always one of these two: “Streets of Fire” (campy as hell, awesome soundtrack and score by Ry Cooder, and feels like it takes place it some kind of alternate reality where we never escaped the ’50s aesthetic), or “Mikey and Nicky” (Peter Falk at his best; the hell with Columbo, that dude CAN ACT).

    Stay well!

    • watch a movie called “Skin” from 2018….a very dark very heavy true story about a neo-nazi that tries to change his ways….best movie i have seen in years.

      other ABSOLUTELY MUST SEE’s

      “Glengarry Glenross”

“A Simple Plan” starring Billy Bob and Bill Paxton

also the 70’s Peter Sellers movie “Being There”

  16. First, thanks for a great show! Tons of inspiration!
One thing that I personally have found very difficult at times, is something that should be very easy, but can be hard to do consistently – and that simply playing small chords (just fourths or thirds on the top two strings) on the backbeat. Not only does it have to be in time, but getting the right snap, sound wise, and also getting the notes really short.
Is there any trickery involved at times? The rhythm guitar on Dionne Warwick’s version of ‘Walk on by’ has some extremely short, almost inaudible notes, so there I suspect they might have muted the strings somehow. But I can easily be wrong.
Care to riff about playing stuff like that at some point?

    Best regards 🙂
    Martin

    • for years they were called “chinks” by studio guys…you just gotta keep messing with the touch til it feels and sounds right

of course if they are not DEAD in the pocket than they will never sound right

  17. Love your show, i started playing guitar in the late 80’s and i feel like I’ve learned more from you in the last year than the previous 30 🙂 that being said, i do have a question…. I had a Gibson back in 1991ish that i got at a pawn shop for no more than $100. I sold it a long time ago but i do have a really bad picture of it. I’m just curious of the model, it looks like a JR but the pick guard is different. I’m going to email the picture to you and if you have a sec i bet you could figure it out… Thank you

  18. Uncle Larry thank you for the endlessly entertaining and educational content! The bassist on the Ann Wilson Wacken 2022 gig looks familiar, as does the photo he slapped.on his pick guard

  19. Hey Tom, not sure if your going to be playing anywhere anytime soon but if so I’d like to swing by and hear you live. I’m down twice a month in Nashville now and thought what better person to see than “The Session Man”! Just seen GTT at the underdog and it had me thinking that if you were thumbing around anywhere. Anyway brother I hope this finds you in good health as well as spirit. If not I’ll send some good vibes your way brother. Keep those sweet sound waves coming my friend and I hope to hear from ya soon!

  20. Tom could you do a video or talk about, What the Nashville studio day to day situation is like? Do Artist have to save up 10’s of thousands of dollars to hire out session guys like the ones your involved in (Say have a producer like Dan Huff or yourself). Or does a new artist, who has wrote a couple of cool songs have no chance of coming to Nashville and producing a quality radio ready record? Maybe breakdown the average cost of that. It’s just the unknown that I’m interested in as well as I’m sure others think about this.

    Keep on being cool man.

    • if you truly do have “cool songs” and the right people hear them, then you don’t have to pay for it out of your pocket. otherwise you do

  21. Dang Larry Just drop the mic man….All Things Must Come to an End and then BAM drop the mic!
No sign off no nothing! Dopest thing ever man, Thats how you do it kids!!

Keep the coolness coming and please keep posting Larry the world waits on the edge of our seats

  22. Hey Tom-
